The Nigerian in me is still
sceptical of ‘free speech’. Is
aware of consequences. Has been
beaten up at gun point by
the Nigerian police.
The doctor in me cannot
afford discrimination. Seeks out
humanitarian work. Should
treat enemies and friends equally.
My ignorance in the politics of
the world makes me
steer clear of it. Keeps me
quiet when others speak. Gives me
shame.
This is where I find myself today
Free speech. Taking sides. Politics.
And I am angry at being
pushed to make these choices.
Funding a war in defense makes me
no less a murderer.
All soldiers and fighters in this war are
people’s relatives.
None of them is Vladimir Putin.
